FAQ — Trusted Tails Airedale Rescue

Adoption Process

How does the adoption process work at Trusted Tails?
Our process begins with an online application to help us understand your lifestyle, home environment, and experience with terriers. Once reviewed, we schedule a phone interview and a home check (which can be done virtually). If approved, we match you with a suitable Airedale, finalize our digital contract, and arrange for pickup or safe transport.
What are your adoption fees, and what do they cover?
Adoption fees typically range depending on the age and specific needs of the Airedale. This fee goes directly toward the comprehensive veterinary care our dogs receive prior to adoption. This includes up-to-date vaccinations, de-worming, heartworm testing, a microchip, spay/neuter surgery, and a full veterinary health check report.

About Airedales

Are Airedale Terriers good for first-time dog owners?
Airedales are highly intelligent, independent, and occasionally stubborn. While they are incredibly rewarding companions, we generally recommend them for individuals who have previous dog experience, particularly with terriers or large working breeds. They thrive with firm, consistent, and positive reinforcement training.
Are Airedale Terriers hypoallergenic?
While no dog is 100% hypoallergenic, Airedales are highly recommended for allergy sufferers. They have a wiry topcoat and a soft undercoat that sheds very little compared to other breeds. However, they do require regular grooming, including brushing and professional clipping or hand-stripping every 6-8 weeks, to minimize dander and keep their coat healthy.
Are they good with children and other Airedales?
Airedales are known to be fiercely loyal, protective, and playful family dogs. Due to their large size and boisterous terrier energy, they are usually best suited for homes with slightly older, respectful children. Because they possess a high prey drive, caution, training, and slow introductions are required if you have cats or smaller animals in the home.
How much exercise does an Airedale need?
Known as the "King of Terriers," Airedales are athletic, high-energy working dogs. They require at least 1 to 2 hours of vigorous daily exercise. A brisk walk combined with interactive play, jogging, or running in a securely fenced yard is essential. Mental stimulation through training and puzzle toys is equally important to prevent destructive boredom.

Health & Guarantee

Are your rescue dogs vet-checked?
Absolutely. Every Airedale that comes through Trusted Tails Airedale Rescue and Rehoming Center is thoroughly examined by a licensed veterinarian. They receive age-appropriate vaccinations, de-worming, heartworm testing, and are spayed or neutered prior to adoption, unless a vet advises otherwise due to age or medical reasons.
What exactly does your health guarantee cover?
We provide a comprehensive 2-year genetic health guarantee. If a licensed veterinarian diagnoses your pet with a life-threatening congenital or hereditary defect within two years of their birth, we will work with you to provide a replacement pet of equivalent value. We also offer a 70% credit for genetic issues occurring after 10 years of age.
What are my responsibilities for the health guarantee?
To maintain the guarantee, you must take your new pet to a licensed veterinarian for an independent exam within 2 business days of arrival. You must also avoid vaccinating the pet for the first 10 days, continue routine de-worming, provide high-quality nutrition, and keep up with standard annual vet care.
What happens if the adoption just isn't a good fit?
We stand behind our dogs for their entire lives. We understand that sometimes things don't work out despite the best intentions. As per our digital adoption contract, if for any reason you can no longer care for your Airedale, they must be returned to Trusted Tails Rescue. They may never be surrendered to a shelter, given away, or sold to a third party.

Transport & Logistics

Do you adopt to homes out of state, and how does transport work?
Yes, we adopt nationwide! We work with USDA-certified ground transporters and specialized flight nannies who are highly experienced with large terriers. We handle the coordination to ensure your Airedale arrives safely and comfortably at your doorstep or your nearest major airport. Please note that the adopter is responsible for all transport-related fees.
What documentation do I receive on adoption day?
Whether picking up in person or receiving your pet via transport, you will get a complete adoption packet. This includes a copy of your signed digital contract, full veterinary health records, a licensed health certificate (required for travel), microchip transfer instructions, and an Airedale transition guide to help them settle into their new home.
